Photoacoustic imaging is a novel hybrid imaging modality that has enjoyed tremendous development in the past decade. Recent advances in photoacoustic computed tomography and photoacoustic microscopy is introduced first. Then the speaker’s research in molecular probes on high-sensitivity and high-specificity detection and imaging is reported. The promising potential of this technique on vascular distortion and myocardial infarction applications is discussed. Finally an outlook on its clinical translation such as breast cancer and prostate cancer detection is provided.
Prof. Liming Nie received the B.S. in Optoelectronics from South China Normal University in 2005 and PhD degree in Optics from South China Normal University in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, he was a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Lihong V. Wang’s group at Washington University in St. Louis. From 2012 to 2014 he held a position of research fellow at National Institutes of Health, USA. He joined Xiamen University as an associate professor in 2013. His research interest spreads over from photoacoustic computed tomography and photoacoustic microscopy to fluorescence imaging and functional imaging. He has also actively explored the realms of molecular probes, contrast agent synthesis and modification, high sensitivity and specificity detection, and biomarker sensing. He has published more than 20 journal papers on high-impact factor journal as first or corresponding author, such as Chem. Soc. Rev., Advanced Materials., Acs Nano., and Small.
