ShanghaiTech Delegation Travels to Israel

Last month, a ShanghaiTech delegation headed by President Jiang Mianheng visited and explored cooperation possibilities with Israel Institute of Technology, Weizmann Institute of Science and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, along with Mobileye, a global leader in the development of vision technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). ShanghaiTech President Jiang and Israel Institute of Technology President Perez Lavie introduced their universities’ vision and recent developments, and discussed potential collaborations in fields of mutual interest.

At Weizmann Institute of Science, President Daniel Zajfman made an introduction to the institute and Vice President Mudi Sheves introduced Yeda Research and Development Co., Ltd.,which commercializes the unique intellectual property developed by the scientists. ShanghaiTech and Weizmann will strengthen cooperation in the construction of large-scale facilities.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem President Menahem BenSasson, Special Envoy to the President for Chinese Affairs Rafi Aviram, Vice President Isaiah Arkin and Chair of Casali Center, Institute of Chemistry Shlomo Magdassi met with President Jiang. President Arkin made a report titledFrom Research Excellence to Applicationon research progress and technology transfer. President BenSasson discussed a planned undergraduate exchange program with ShanghaiTech University and Professor Magdassi showed interest in carrying out joint research in nanoscience.

During his stay in Israel, President Jiang communicated with Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, sharing his views and experience in city planning and tech-innovation. The two had an in-depth discussion and will cooperate in the commercialization of research findings.

At Mobileye, Co-founder, President, and CEO Ziv Aviram introduced the company from its historical developments to its main products and operations. Mobileye was founded in 1999 by Amnon Shashua and Ziv Aviram and in 2013 it was acquired by Intel forover$15 million.

Israel Institute of Technology President Perez Lavie led the meeting.
