AAAS/Science delegation visits ShanghaiTech University

On 5th July 2017, AAAS/Science delegation headed by Dr. Valda Vinson, deputy editor of Science, and Chu Xiaoying, director of business development in Asia, came to visit ShanghaiTech. Professors from ShanghaiTech held a broad and productive discussion with the delegation.

During the meeting, Professor Liu Jilong, Vice Dean of SLST, expressed warm welcome to the delegation, and gave a general introduction of ShanghaiTech. Dr. Valda Vinson fully affirmed the innovative spirit of ShanghaiTech, and gave the university high praise for what it has gained since its establishment in 2013. She then gave a history of the development of Science journal. In addition, Dr. Valda Vinson also described how to prepare manuscripts to the specific requirements of Science and reported the statistics of submissions by Chinese scholars in recent years. Professor Frank Tsung and Professor Liu Jilong introduced SPST and SLST. Many interesting issues such as how to publish papers in high IF journals were brought up and discussed.

In the afternoon, the Science delegation visited the SLST research facility and SPST’s materials biology lab. Dr. Valda Vinson said she looked forward to a deeper collaboration with ShanghaiTech in the future.
