On August 8th, ShanghaiTech President Jiang Mianheng met a delegation headed by Katayama Kazuyuki, Consul-General of Japan in Shanghai.
President Jiang welcomed the delegates and made a brief introduction to the university, highlighting the partnerships that ShanghaiTech has developed with many institutions of higher education in Europe and United States and expressing hope for Sino-Japan cooperation in research and education. Katayama Kazuyuki said that the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai and himself were all willing to promote exchange between institutes and universities in China and Japan.
Dr.Huang Weiguang,Vice President of Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, CAS and Ms. Gao Lin, Director of Office of the President, ShanghaiTech University also attended the meeting.
Kazuyuki Katayama has been the Consul-General of Japan in Shanghai since August, 2015. He obtained his Bachelor of Law from Kyoto University, Master of Arts from Harvard University and PhD from University of Malaya. He also studied in the Chinese University of HK, Beijing Language Institute, Peking University and Stanford University. As a career diplomat, he has served in Hong Kong, Beijing, Washington DC, Kuala Lumpur and Brussels and was Consul-General in Detroit before coming to Shanghai.
