On November 27th, President Jiang Mianheng met with Sean Stein, the new U.S. Consul General in Shanghai, and Peter Dycaico, Deputy Director of Politics and Economics Section at the US Consulate.
President Jiang welcomed the Consul General and briefly introduced the development of ShanghaiTech, especially the undergraduate study abroad programs and the international faculty team. They discussed issues of Sino-US scientific cooperation and the development of Shanghai as a center for scientific and technological innovation. President Jiang pointed out that innovation requires a change in mentality and that was why ShanghaiTech prioritizes nurturing students’ innovative thinking abilities. Sean Stein was keen to promote educational cooperation and offered to liaise ShanghaiTech with American research institutions and enterprises.
Sean Stein took his post in August. He previously served as Consul General in Shenyang, China.
