27 ShanghaiTech University students arrived in Berkeley for their summer school visiting program on July 23rd. This is the fourth year ShanghaiTech students have participated in UC Berkeley’s Summer session.
After settling down in their dormitories, the students took a campus tour to get familiar with the campus. They enjoyed seeing the classic buildings and getting to know the stories about them. The group was impressed by the design of the campus and how many benches, fountains, and bridges on campus have been dedicated in memory of some great contributor to the school, or have been donated by UC Berkeley alumni. Someday in the future, ShanghaiTech will have its own history and stories.
Students chose from a wide range of liberal arts and general education courses, including College Writing, International and Area Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, and American Language and Culture. The classes emphasize introducing different perspectives to understand social problems and find solutions, and they are known to boost student’s initiative and systems thinking abilities.
