As one of the world’s most renowned ensembles and cultural emissaries, The Philadelphia Orchestra continues to represent a bridge for cultural, educational, and diplomatic exchange between China and the United States. In 1973, at the request of President Nixon, the Orchestra was invited to be the first U.S. orchestra to tour China. Ever since that first visit, the ensemble has held many concerts in Chinese cities including Shanghai, engaging Chinese music lovers both in concert halls and through community engagement. Philadelphia Orchestra and ShanghaiTech have long been carrying out friendly exchanges.
