The 2019 UPenn-SIST Joint Summer Camp ended on August 23, 2019 at ShanghaiTech’s School of Information Science and Technology. Organized by University of Pennsylvania and sponsored by ShanghaiTech University, a total of 46 students from 26 high schools including Shanghai High School, No.2 High School of East China Normal University, High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, High School Affiliated to Fudan University, The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, Deerfield Academy attended the five-day summer camp.
Focusing on the area of Artificial Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, Robotics, and Virtual Reality, the program included lectures, project discussion, follow-up guidance and aimed to broaden high school students’ horizons, inspire their interest in science and technology, and give them a preliminary understanding of artificial intelligence(AI).
UPenn Professor Shi Jianbo worked with his team of professors and teaching assistants to adjust the teaching scheme every day in order to best serve campers’ needs. A highlight for campers was their visit to SIST Professor Yu Jingyi’s Multi-Disciplinary Artificial Reality Studio.
At the closing ceremony, six student groups made excellent presentations on the subjects related to artificial intelligence, including making an app to auto-play music with the clients’ mood through scanning their faces; creating auto-zoom glasses in order to release teenagers’ shortsightedness, and making an app to make emoji package.
