CEO and Consul of Swissnex in China Dr. Philippe Roesle visits ShanghaiTech

On October 24, 2022, Dr. Philippe Roesle, CEO and Consul of Swissnex in China, Switzerland’s Science Consulate in Shanghai, visited ShanghaiTech University. Vice President Jiang Ge held a meeting with him.





After extending a warm welcome to Philippe Roesle and his delegation, Jiang Ge briefed the internationalization strategy of ShanghaiTech and mutual visits and joint events with Swiss institutions. Nie Yan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, presented the history, student training, research achievements, innovation and entrepreneurship of ShanghaiTech. Then Philippe Roesle introduced the mission of Swissnex in China, and its role in promoting cooperation in education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship between Switzerland and China. The two sides also discussed future cooperation options, such as student exchange and joint seminars.

 


 

 

Following the meeting, Philippe Roesle and his delegation visited the Multi-disciplinary Artificial Reality Studio (MARS), the School of Entrepreneurship and Management (SEM), the School of Creativity and Art (SCA) and the School of Information Science and Technology (SIST). At MARS, the Swiss delegation was impressed by the “Light Field Stage” facility and the vivid demonstration by SIST undergraduate students. Yang Yu, Assistant Dean of SEM, introduced how the school is cultivating innovation and entrepreneurship talents with a focus on science and technology. SEM is looking forward to initiating more exchanges and cooperation with Swiss universities and enterprises through Swissnex in China. At SCA, the delegation visited the Center for Adaptive System Engineering (CASE), Lab for Experiential and AffectiveDesign (LEAD), Design Interaction Visual Lab (DIV) and Creative Entertainment Lab (CEL). In addition, Laurent Kneip, Associate Professor of SIST and an alumnus of ETH Zürich, toured the guests around the ShanghaiTech Automation and Robotics Center (STAR Center) and exchanged views on the application of computer vision and robotics.

 

 


Switzerland boasts a world-leading higher education system, fortified by its solid economic strength, multilingual cultural environment and innovative mindset. In July 2016, ShanghaiTech held a Swiss Day together with Swissnex in China and Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai, introducing Swiss higher education, innovation and culture, which attracted active participation of many faculty and students.Moreover, 34 Integrated Innovation Masters’ degree students from the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO) participated in a one-week exchange program (Summer Academy) with ShanghaiTech students in July 2018.
