Delegation from the University of Waikato Visits ShanghaiTech

On March 10, President Jiang Mianheng met with Professor Alister Jones, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato in New Zealand.  

 

President Jiang extended a warm welcome to Professor Jones and his colleague Mulan Mu, Associate Director of Global Programs of the University of Waikato. The University of Waikato is one of the top universities in New Zealand, said President Jiang. As an international university oriented towards research and innovation, ShanghaiTech aspires to build partnerships with outstanding universities all over the world, he added.

 

Professor Jones said that the University of Waikato had a long history of cooperation with Chinese universities, and that he was confident in further promoting education internationalization on both sides.

Before the meeting, Professor Jones visited SPST and SIST accompanied by Vice President Jiang Ge.

 

At SPST, the deans and faculty representatives gave an overview of the school and its rich teaching and international activities.

 

At SIST, the guests toured the Electromagnetic Microwave Lab, Electrical and Electronics Lab, Mobile Autonomous Robotics Systems Lab, and Virtual Reality and Visual Computing Lab where Professor Jones experienced the 3D Dynamic Reconstruction technology. In five minutes he received his own 3D reconstructed model processed in the lab by undergraduate students.

 

His last stop was the School Affiliated to ShanghaiTech University, which provides primary and middle school education. It was a brief, yet interesting visit that complemented Professor Jones’ understanding of the ShanghaiTech community.
