Yang Nan, Assistant Professor in SPST, was awarded the inaugural “Science, She Says!” Award by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI). The Award is established to recognize outstanding junior female scientists, with no Italian descent, who has remarkable contributions to the advancement of bilateral cooperation in science and technology. Candidates from five regions across the world (Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Central and South America and the Caribbean, North America) are selected with one winner for each region, and Yang Nan won the Asia and the Pacific award.
Yang earned her Ph.D. degree from the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Rome II. She joined ShanghaiTech in 2016 and her research focuses on the design and development of efficient, stable and economical energy materials, which can be applied to energy conversion and storage. The results of her group have promoted the development of hydrogen production by electrohydrolysis, and hydrogen fuel cells. Yang has established long-term scientific cooperation with the teams of the University of Rome II, the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and other institutions. The main projects she has participated in include the EU Marie Curie Scholarship and Fellowship, and programs by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
