On March 27, Gu Sai, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (China) of the University of Warwick and Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), visited ShanghaiTech University. ShanghaiTech Vice President Jiang Ge extended a warm welcome to him. Yu Jingyi, Vice Provost and Executive Dean of SIST, and Gao Lin, Chief of University Administrative Affairs and Director of the University Office, and other colleagues attended the meeting and campus tour.
Gu specializes in clean energy and materials and was elected as a Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering (UK) in 2022. He spoke highly of ShanghaiTech’s aspiration to be a small-scale, high-level and international university. He also said that the visit laid a good foundation for future cooperation and looked forward to promoting academic collaboration and exchanges between the University of Warwick and ShanghaiTech.

Gu then gave a lecture themed “Mens Agitat Molem” in the university library. “Mens Agitat Molem” is the Latin motto of the University of Warwick, which translates as “Mind moves the matter” in English. He shared his study and research experience in the UK, and how he overcame challenges during the pandemic and kept exploring interdisciplinary fields.
After his lecture, Gu visited the Center for High-resolution Electron Microscopy at SPST, the Mobile Autonomous Robotics Systems Lab and Virtual Reality and Visual Computing Lab at SIST, and the Molecular Imaging Core Facility at SLST. In the Y Building, he learned about the development of SIAIS and the iHuman Institute, as well as the Collaborative Innovation Platform for Clinical Research and Translational Medicine. Finally, he visited Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center and learned about its achievements and future plans.
