SHINE Forum 2024

ON2024-05-29TAG: ShanghaiTech UniversityCATEGORY: Academic conference

The SHINE (Shanghai HIgh repetitioN rate XFEL and Extreme light facility), which is a high rep-rate XFEL facility including an 8 GeV CW superconducting RF Linac, 3 undulator lines, 3 X-ray beamlines and 10 experimental stations, together with a 100 PW super-intense laser, will be one of the most advanced user facilities that can deliver femtosecond X-ray pulses from 0.4 to 25 keV with up to a million pulses per second. The SHINE under construction at Zhangjiang District in Shanghai is the largest research infrastructure project in China. The civil construction started in April 2018. The injector is under installation and 750 keV / 100 pC / 1 MHz beam has been obtained from the VHF gun. Beamlines and endstations aim to initiate hutch and public facilities installation of 1st experimental hall in September 2024. The technical design for the world first 100 PW laser facility has been finalized and is under construction, and the experimental chamber for the colliding of 100PW laser and XFEL has been installed. When SHINE becomes operational, it will be the first high repetition rate XFEL user facility in China that is designed specifically for enabling new science opportunities.

SHINE Forum is an annual meeting on sciences and technologies hosted by the SHINE, with goals to address challenges of new FEL infrastructure developments, to facilitate first user’s experiments and international collaborations, and to further promote FEL science as well. This meeting along with other international events aims to accelerate novel yet challenging high repetition FEL technology developments and to enable and exploit the full scientific potential of these state-of-the-art light sources.

After the mitigation of COVID-19 pandemic, we restart SHINE Forum 2024 and it will be held on June 7 at ShanghaiTech University. The one-day forum comprises 9 plenary lectures on X-ray FEL developments and applications, by invited scientists from advanced light sources and related laboratories. The plenary session will be followed by two parallel sessions on technology development and scientific applications of XFEL respectively. Please find the preliminary agenda as attached.
