On September 10, in celebration of Teachers’ Day, ShanghaiTech University convened its second Faculty Conference of 2024 in the University Auditorium. The event, chaired by Vice President Jiang Ge, brought together university leadership, heads of schools and administrative offices, and a majority of professors. The conference featured a tenure appointment ceremony and an introduction of newly appointed professors.
Party Secretary Li Ruxin, who is responsible for human resources, extended holiday greetings and expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of all faculty members. He highlighted the vital role that teachers play in the university’s growth, serving as the cornerstone of education. Li reviewed recent successes in faculty development and urged all colleagues to continue prioritizing ethical standards, enhancing professional expertise, and fostering innovation in education. He also emphasized the university’s commitment to leveraging its strengths in research and education to advance national development.
President Feng Donglai congratulated the newly promoted professors and extended a warm welcome to the new faculty members. He provided an overview of recent university milestones and underscored the importance of maintaining a rich cultural atmosphere that supports academic innovation and talent development. Speaking on faculty development, Feng outlined strategies for the university’s high-quality growth, including optimizing the academic discipline structure, aligning with national priorities, improving the tenure-track system, and strengthening international collaboration.
The conference also marked a major milestone for 25 professors who successfully passed the tenure review. Of these, 22 were promoted to tenured associate professor, and 3 achieved the rank of tenured full professor. During the tenure appointment ceremony, President Feng presented certificates to the newly tenured professors, followed by a group photo. The professors shared insights from their careers, while 15 newly appointed professors introduced themselves to the university community.
ShanghaiTech currently has more than 1,500 faculty and staff members, with more than 1,300 serving full-time. The university remains dedicated to addressing key national strategic needs and will continue pursuing reforms and innovations in education, technology, and talent development to enhance the nation’s technological capabilities.
