On September 4, a delegation from Shell Group visited ShanghaiTech University. The delegation included Selda Gunsel, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President Technology; Alexander van der Made, Chief Scientist for Chemistry; Wen Hai, General Manager of Shell (Shanghai) Technology Centre; and Deng Qun, Academic Partnerships & Grants Manager. They were warmly welcomed by Vice President Jiang Ge. Both parties signed an extension agreement to continue their cooperation.
Nie Yan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, introduced the history and innovations of ShanghaiTech University and reviewed the fruitful cooperation since the first agreement was signed in July 2021. Jiang Ge noted that as a young and vibrant university, ShanghaiTech is committed to addressing the critical challenges faced by China and the world in areas such as energy, environment, and materials. Specifically, ShanghaiTech has established the Institute of Carbon Neutrality to contribute to China’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. Selda Gunsel highly commended the cooperation achievements and expressed confidence in future collaborations. She pointed out that energy issues are global and cannot be solved by a single technology or company alone. Only through joint efforts can we find the optimal solutions. At the end of the meeting, representatives from both parties signed the agreement and took commemorative photos.
The signing of this cooperation agreement marks another significant milestone. Both parties will deepen their cooperation in several frontier scientific areas such as hydrogen production and storage, carbon capture and utilization, and new materials, among others, to jointly address the challenges brought by global energy transition.
