On October 28, a delegation from Springer Nature led by Frank Vrancken Peeters, Chief Executive Officer, visited ShanghaiTech University. They were warmly welcomed by Jiang Mianheng, Chair of the University Governing Board, and Jiang Ge, Vice President. The delegation also included Arnout Jacobs, President of Greater China; Xiaohong Helena Yang, Vice President for Government and Academic Affairs; along with representatives from different divisions within Springer Nature.
Jiang Ge provided an overview of ShanghaiTech’s development history and academic setup, highlighting the cooperation between the two parties in publishing, digital resources, and overseas talent recruitment since the initial agreement was signed in November 2020. Jiang Mianheng expressed hopes of holding high-level scientific forums with Springer Nature in the future to showcase the university’s research achievements and enhance its international academic influence.
Peeters briefly introduced the Springer Nature Group and its activities in China. Arnout Jacobs praised ShanghaiTech’s notable academic publishing accomplishments over the past decade, and reiterated the group’s commitment to further empowering the university’s research teams, with the goal of developing a world-class innovative research institution.
The signing ceremony took place at the university library, signifying the further deepening of the collaborative relationship between ShanghaiTech and Springer Nature. Representatives from the Office of International Affairs, Library and IT Services, and the Office of Human Resources attended the signing ceremony.
Additionally, the delegation toured several schools and institutes within ShanghaiTech, including Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies, iHuman Institute, School of Information Science and Technology, and School of Physical Science and Technology. These visits offered the guests a deeper understanding of the university’s research advancements.
Springer Nature Group, established in 2015 through the merger of Macmillan Science and Education and Springer Science+Business Media, publishes renowned journals such as Nature and Scientific American and holds a significant influence in the global scientific community.
