On the morning of November 12, a delegation led by Stephen Spinelli, President of Babson College, visited ShanghaiTech University. Spinelli and the delegation were welcomed by Jiang Mianheng, President of ShanghaiTech University, as well as Yin Jie, Executive Vice President and Provost, and Vice President Jiang Ge.
Stephen Spinelli has been serving as the President of Babson College since July 2019, and this time marked his first visit to ShanghaiTech. He was accompanied by Babson College Board of Trustees member Fred Kiang, Senior Vice President Edward Chiu, and Vice President Ben Chevrette.
In 2020, ShanghaiTech University and Babson College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation. In 2022, the two universities signed a further MOU to deepen collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship education, expanding the scope to include master’s degree education, high-level training, and academic exchange. During the meeting, both parties reviewed the progress of their collaboration in recent years and discussed future plans. Spinelli expressed his vision of integrating technological elements into Babson’s entrepreneurship education. Jiang Mianheng noted that ShanghaiTech’s focus on scientific and technological innovation aligns well with Babson’s strengths in entrepreneurship education, and ShanghaiTech anticipated a mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
Before the meeting, Jiang Ge introduced the guests to the overall development of ShanghaiTech and accompanied them on a visit to a ShanghaiTech incubated startup CorrectSequence Therapeutics, as well as the Babson Office located within the School of Entrepreneurship and Management (SEM).
Founded in 1919, Babson College is a global leader in the field of entrepreneurship education. It has been ranked number one in entrepreneurship by U.S. News & World Report for 27 consecutive years. In September 2023, Babson College was ranked as the 10th best college in the United States by The Wall Street Journal.
Wang Shouyang, Dean of SEM, Yang Yu, Assistant Dean of SEM, and Nie Yan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, also attended the meeting.
